The name of the novel is taken from a quote from the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius from his collection of aphoristic thoughts “To oneself” [1] , which is also an epigraph to the novel itself: “... How small is a person’s life, and how small is the corner of the earth where he lives.”
Story
A young Australian travels the islands of the Malay Archipelago , hiding from the murder charges in Sydney . Here he meets love, which leads to a new tragedy.
Films
The novel was in 1933, directed by Alfred E. Green , starring Douglas Fairbanks Jr. as Fred Blake, Patricia Ellis as Louise Fries and Ralph Bellamy as Eric Christessen. [2]
