Biography

Tate Smith was born on November 18, 1981 in Sydney . He began to actively engage in rowing from early childhood, was trained at the Gold Coast Canoe Club.

Thanks to a series of successful performances, he won the right to defend the country's honor at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing - as part of a four-seater crew, which also included rowers Tony Schumacher , Dave Smith and Clint Robinson , started at a distance of 1000 meters, but managed to reach only the stage of the semi-finals, where finished fourth.

He achieved his first serious success at the adult international level in 2011, when he joined the Australian national team and attended the World Championships in Szeged, Hungary, from where he brought the silver dignity award won in the classification of four-seat kayaks at a kilometer distance - only the crew passed it in the final from Germany. Being one of the leaders of the rowing team of Australia, he successfully qualified for the 2012 Olympic Games in London - in fours and a thousand meters along with rowers such as Dave Smith, Murray Stewart and Jacob Clear , he won all his rivals and won the Olympic gold medal.

After the London Olympics, Smith remained in the main team of the Australian national team and continued to take part in major international regattas. So, in 2013, he went to represent the country at the world championship in Duisburg, Germany, where he received a bronze medal in the kilometer race of four-seater crews, losing only to crews from Russia and the Czech Republic in the final.
