"Delong Ruby" - an oval- shaped star ruby; weight 100.32 carats (20.064 g).
History
Ruby was discovered in Burma in 1930. Martin Ehrmann sold it to Edith Haggin DeLong for $ 21,400, which in 1937 transferred the stone to the American Museum of Natural History in New York.
On October 29, 1964, Delong's ruby was stolen from the museum by robbers led by Jack Murphy [1] . Several other precious artifacts were also stolen, including Sapphire Star of India and Eagle Diamond . In January 1965, some stones were accidentally found, but the Delong ruby was not among them. After several months of investigation, unknown people suggested returning the ruby for a fee of $ 25,000 (the real value of the stone was many times higher). The ransom was provided by Florida businessman John D. MacArthur.
