- The army of the Romans in Phrygia was preparing for a campaign against the Arabs. Artavazd , the stratig of the Opsikian army, son-in-law of the Byzantine emperor Constantine , decided to seize power. Artavazd killed Patrician Visir, Constantine fled to Anatolia. Constantine was supported by the Thracian army. Artavazd entered Constantinople , and the master Theophanes proclaimed him emperor. Artavazd instructed his son Nikifor, the stratigus of Thrace, to guard the capital. Artavazd restored icon veneration.
