Mountain assault costume

It is mistakenly believed that the costumes were taken by mountain huntsmen of German production during the Second World War . Those models were made of canvas and consisted of trousers and anorak , unlike the Soviet costume, which consisted of trousers and a jacket. During the war of the USSR in Afghanistan, the issue of the lack of special uniforms became acute. Highlands with strong winds required something more than the usual equipment for Soviet soldiers . This was due to the 40th Army (40 A), which was part of the Limited contingent of Soviet troops in Afghanistan (OKSVA). By that time, changes were made in the structure of 40 A , taking into account the accumulated experience of military operations in the highlands of Afghanistan. According to the directive of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the USSR, in each motorized rifle brigade and regiment, so-called mountain rifle battalions were created on the basis of full-time motorized rifle brigades, where the personnel underwent special mountain training and received appropriate mountain uniforms and equipment . It was then in 1981 that the Gorka suit was created by experts on the basis of accumulated experience and taking into account the requirements of specialists from Soviet mountain rifle divisions. At the end of the war, the costume did not disappear, but thanks to its characteristics, it remained in military units and became available to the civilian population.

Modern "slides" are made of dense tent cotton (cotton) fabric, and rip-stop fabric (cotton and polyester) is used as a finish and reinforcement for critical areas to wear and get wet. More functional and expensive suits use reinforcing membranes in the reinforcement areas, which protects against getting wet and dirt much better than mixed fabrics.

Costume Elements

The suit consists of a jacket and trousers with suspenders. For a better fit and to avoid sailing in the wind, it has a screed system based on rubber-fabric braid on the sides of the jacket, on the sleeves, under the knees and at the bottom of the trousers.
