Biography
George Jacobson was born on July 23, 1879 in the town of Smigel in western Poland, which at that time was part of the Posen province as part of the German Empire. He began his acting career in the early 1900s as an actor in mobile theaters. In 1904, John worked as an actor and director in Wilhelmshaven . In 1914, he received an invitation as an actor and director at the Vaterländische Schauspiele in Vienna.
In 1917, George John made his film debut, later playing in almost 120 silent films. Since the 1920s, John starred in films of famous German directors, in particular, played in a number of productions of Fritz Lang , who became classics of silent films: Tired Death (1921), Doctor Mabuse, player (1922), Nibelungs (1924) and M (1931). Also, George John starred in several films by Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau , in particular as a night watchman in The Last Man (1924) with Emil Jannings in the title role.
After the Nazis came to power in Germany and the adoption of anti-Jewish laws, George John was no longer invited to film roles in the spring of 1933. Subsequently, the actor was deported to the Lodz ghetto , where he died on November 18, 1941 under mysterious circumstances at the age of 62.
