Coat of arms of the Magadan region

The coat of arms of the Magadan region is a heraldic shield of the classical "French" form, divided into three parts. The upper part is red scarlet , the lower horizontal part is divided vertically into two equal parts. The coat of arms is framed by a gold frame. In the upper red field there is an image of three ingots arranged in a pyramidal shape, the two lower ones - gold and the upper - silver - symbols of prosperity, prosperity, economic basis of the Magadan region. Behind the bars there are intersecting gold geological hammers and picks on silver handles, which serve as a symbol of the industry that laid the foundation for the Magadan Region; a symbol of pioneering, labor exploits of northerners, development of new territories, succession of generations, endurance, stamina and endurance. In the lower right part there is an image of three golden fish on a dark blue background, which symbolizes one of the active industries of the region - fishing and fish processing. In the lower left part of the coat of arms of blue color there is a silver image of the dam of a hydroelectric power station with the support of a high-voltage power line adjacent to it in the background. This image characterizes the developed hydropower system of the region and the future of the Kolyma region. The silver image of a flying airplane means the main mode of transport connecting the Magadan region with other regions of Russia and countries of the world. In the center, combining all three fields, there is an image of a wind rose of yellow (gold) color as a symbol of the territorial feature of the location of the region.

Color Meaning

The colors used in the coat of arms symbolize:

• red (scarlet) - a symbol of courage, selflessness, heroism, fair struggle and life
• yellow (gold) - a symbol of strength, greatness, intelligence, generosity
• dark blue - a symbol of exalted aspirations, thinking, sincerity and virtue
• white (silver) - a symbol of purity, wisdom, nobility, peace, mutual cooperation
• blue (azure) - a symbol of generosity, honesty, loyalty and impeccability.

Due to numerous inconsistencies with the rules of heraldry (the use of modern technological figures (airplane and dam), two shades of the same heraldic color ( azure ), fractional field), the coat of arms of the Magadan region was denied state registration.

On June 2, 2017, the Magadan Regional Duma announced a Competition for the best project of the new official symbols (coat of arms and flag) of the region. 21 projects were submitted to the competition, according to which a popular vote was announced from September 18 to October 15. The first place went to the project, which actually repeats the existing coat of arms of Magadan . At the meeting of the Competition Commission on October 19, 2017, none of the projects won the majority of votes, and it was decided to develop new symbols of the region in coordination with the Heraldic Council under the President of the Russian Federation. As a priority variant of the coat of arms of the region, a variant with a deer was considered. On February 14, 2018, an interim decision was made to maintain the continuity of colors, shapes and symbols already used in the regional emblem and flag, and to refine them, taking into account the results of the vote and the preferences of the residents of Kolyma ^[1] .
