Biography

Early Years, Education

Theodore Freeman was born February 18, 1930 in the town of , Pennsylvania . He graduated from high school in 1948 and entered the University of Delaware , but studied there for only one year, and then transferred to the United States Naval Academy , which he graduated in 1953 with a bachelor of science degree . In 1960, Freeman received a Master of Science degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Michigan . Freeman graduated later. He was a member of the and the .

Military Service

Freeman received the rank of first lieutenant in January 1955, the following month - the so-called "pilot wings" . He served at military bases: , , Texas , Nellis, Nevada , , California . By February 1960, Freeman received the rank of captain and was sent to serve at the Edwards Air Force Base in California as an aerospace engineer.
In October 1963, Freeman was selected to the third set of NASA astronauts [3] .
On October 31, 1964, Freeman was returning from a McDonnell Douglas ( St. Louis ) training camp to ( Houston ) on a Northrop T-38 Talon . When landing, a white goose got into the air intake, which caused a fire. Theodore Freeman did not have time to catapult, and in any case, the height for this was already too small [4] .
In total, Freeman flew over 3300 hours for the service, including more than 2400 hours on jet aircraft [5] . He was buried at Arlington National Cemetery [6] .

Personal life

Wife - Faith Clark Freeman, daughter - Faith Huntington. It is noteworthy that the wife of the astronaut only learned about his death when a reporter came to her house to interview him.
