Turner Cup ( Eng. Turner Cup ) - a cup awarded to the winner of the playoffs of the championship of the North American International Hockey League (IHL). Named after goalkeeper Joe Turner, who played for the Detroit Red Wings . Turner died in Belgium during World War II .
The Turner Cup was an IHL champion trophy that existed from 1945 to 2001, after which the prize was sent to the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto , Ontario , Canada . In July 2007, the United Hockey League (UHL) officially changed its name to International Hockey League. The new IHL has submitted a request to the Hockey Hall of Fame for a controlling stake in the Turner Cup. The name Turner Cup was restored on September 24, 2007. The new IHL lasted from 2007 to 2010, after which the Turner Cup was sent back to the Hockey Hall of Fame.
