Alynak, Mahmut

Mahmut Alynak (born 1952) is a Turkish lawyer, writer and politician of Kurdish descent.

Biography

He graduated from the Law Faculty of Ankara University [1] . According to the results of the general elections in Turkey in 1987, he was elected a member of the Great National Assembly from Kars. Alynak ran for the Social Democratic People's Party of Turkey. In 1991 he was re-elected, this time he represented Shyrnak in parliament. He later joined the Democratic Party. In 1994, Alynak and five other members of the Great National Assembly were deprived of immunity due to allegations of support for Kurdish separatism. In December of that year, he was sentenced to three months in prison. [2]

In September 1997, Alynak published the book Şiro'nun Ateşi, the plot of which was based on real events that took place in the village of Ormanichi, located in the Gučlukonak district of Shirnak province. The book was banned, in 2005 the ECHR found this ban a violation of the tenth article of the European Convention on Human Rights [3] .

Later Alynak was elected chairman of the party of a democratic society in Kars, in 2007 he unsuccessfully ran for parliament as an independent candidate [4] .

In May 2007, Alynak was sentenced to ten months in prison, the reason for this was the statement of Alynak regarding the incident in Shemdinli He stated that the Turkish parliament and general staff indulge counter-guards , harboring those responsible for the incident. The court found this statement a violation of Article 301 [5] .

In 2011, he was arrested on charges of a Kurdish organization, the Union of Communities of Kurdistan [6] . Contained in Kandyr Prison [7] .
