Biography

Jonas Ems was born on August 26, 1986 in the city of Hamm . He began to actively engage in rowing from early childhood, was trained in Essen at the local sports club of the same name "Essen".

He achieved his first serious success at the adult international level in 2005, when he joined the German national team and attended the European Championships in Poznan, Poland, from where he brought the bronze dignity award won in the classification of four-seater kayaks at a distance of 200 meters. In addition, this season he performed at the World Championships in Croatian Zagreb and in the same discipline became the silver medalist there. Two years later, he won the European championship in the Spanish Pontevedra and the home world championship in Duisburg - he received both gold medals alone at two hundred meters.

Thanks to a series of successful performances, he won the right to defend the honor of the country at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing , started here alone at a distance of 500 meters, but managed to reach only the semi-finals, where he finished sixth.

In 2009, Ems added to his track record two silver medals received at the European Home Championships in Brandenburg alone at two hundred meters and a 4 × 200 m relay, as well as a silver medal won in the relay at the World Championships in Dartmouth, Canada. In the 2012 season, he took silver at the European Championship in the Croatian Zagreb, becoming the second in the two-hundred-meter race of double crews. Being one of the leaders of the rowing team of Germany, he successfully qualified for the Olympic Games in London - together with the titled team-mate Ronald Raue, he reached the final stage of the two-hundred-meter doubles program and took eighth place in the decisive race.

After the London Olympics, Jonas Ems for some time remained in the main part of the German national team and continued to take part in major international regattas. So, in 2013, he spoke at the European Championships in the Portuguese city of Montemor-o-Velho, where he became a silver medalist in two at two hundred meters, and also visited the home world championship in Duisburg, where he received bronze in the same discipline. Soon after the end of these competitions, he decided to end the career of a professional athlete, giving way to young German rowers in the national team.

Married to German kayaker Frederick Loe , silver and bronze medalist of the world championships.
