During the period when Kazakhstan was a part of the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union, the name "Mambet" became a household name in an insulting and derogatory way in relation to the indigenous population (Kazakhs) who lived in rural areas and, accordingly, poorly or did not speak Russian at all. Used by representatives of the Russian ethnic group, as well as Kazakhs, who underwent strong Russification and urbanization. This led to manifestations of the inferiority complex and a gradual narrowing of the use of the name, which is quite common among Kazakhs. The most probable reason is in the Russian Empire, respectively in the Russian environment, people professing Islam were called not “Muslims”, but “Mohammedans” named after the Prophet Muhammad. The expression "mambet - mohammed" (or "mambet - mohammed") meant the following meanings: "not changing the traditional faith and way of life", "backward", "dumb", "native", "chock", "cattle", which opposed the more "progressive" Christianity (at the initial stage), and then the Russian (Soviet, European) standard of living. It is still in use today (less often), occasionally causing verbal conflicts in the network space. As a form of insult migrated to persons of Yakut nationality.
