Solomin, Yuri Methodievich

Yuri Mefodevich Solomin (born June 18, 1935 , Chita ) is a Soviet and Russian actor and director of theater and cinema, a theater teacher. Artistic Director of the State Academic Maly Theater of Russia since 1988. People's Artist of the USSR (1988) [1] , People's Artist of Kyrgyzstan (1996). Laureate of State Prizes of the RSFSR named after the Vasilyev brothers ( 1971 ) and the Russian Federation ( 2002 ). Full holder of the Order of Merit to the Fatherland .

Biography

Yuri Solomin was born in the city of Chita, East Siberian Territory (now the Far Eastern Federal District of Russia) in the family of music teachers Zinaida Ananyevna Ryabtseva (1910-1992) and Methodius Viktorovich Solomin (1905-1960) [2] . Since childhood, he participated in the performances of the city Palace of Pioneers . The popular science film “Maly Theater and its Masters”, dedicated to the 125th anniversary of the theater [2] [3] , which Yuri saw as a schoolboy, had a great influence on him. He learned about the Higher Theater School. M. S. Shchepkina at the Maly Theater. At the end of the school, Yuri Solomin entered this school, in 1953 he was enrolled in the class of Vera Pashennaya [2] .

In 1957 , after graduating from college, he was accepted into the troupe of the Maly Theater . Among the roles played by the actor on the stage are Khlestakov in Gogol 's The Examiner , Fedya Protasov in The Living Corpse of Leo Tolstoy , Voinitsky in Uncle Van by Anton Chekhov , Cyrano de Bergerac based on the play by Edmond Rostan and Tsar Fedor in the tragedy of Alexei Tolstoy ; Since 1980 he has been working in the theater and as a director [2] .

Since 1988, he has been the artistic director of the Maly Theater [2] .

Since 1961, he also teaches at the Higher Theater School. M.S. Shchepkina. Professor, conducts master classes with foreign students in America, Japan, South Korea.

He made his debut in cinema in 1960, playing the main role in the film " Sleepless Night "; Director Isidor Annensky was recommended by Vera Pashennaya [2] . The All-Union recognition of the actor brought the role of Pavel Koltsov in the television film “ Adjutant of His Excellency ”.

He starred in many famous films, including the Oscar-winning film “ Dersu Uzala ” by Akira Kurosawa , “ Blockade ”, “ The Bat ” and “ TASS is authorized to declare ... ”. However, he calls Stube his favorite movie roles in Alexey Saltykov ’s film “And It Was Evening and It Was Morning” and Gettel in “ Victorious Spirit ” by Victor Georgiev [2] .

As a director, he shot the television films Scandalous Incidents in Brickmill (1981), Shore of His Life (1985), In the Beginning was the Word (1992), and the play Mysterious Box based on the play by Pyotr Karatygin (musical television play of the Maly Theater, which premiered on May 4, 2003).

In April 2019, the Ministry of Culture and Solomin signed an indefinite contract to continue working as the artistic director of the Maly Theater [4] .

In honor of the actor named asteroid number 10054 [5] .

From September 8, 1990 [6] [7] to November 15, 1991 he was Minister of Culture of the RSFSR [8] [9] [10] , then until December 5 of the same year he temporarily acted as minister [11] .

On February 6, 2012, he was officially registered as a confidant of the candidate for presidency of the Russian Federation and the then acting chairman of the Government of Russia Vladimir Putin [12] .

March 11, 2014 he signed a collective appeal to the Russian public of cultural figures of Russia in support of the position of the President in Ukraine and Crimea [13] .

During the 2018 presidential election, he was a member of the initiative group to nominate Putin [14] .

Member of the Union of Cinematographers of Russia , member of the Public Council for the publication of the Orthodox Encyclopedia [15] , president of the Association of Russian Drama Theaters and president of the Pokrovsky Cathedral on Red Square Foundation. Academician of the National Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences of Russia [16] . Academician of the Russian Academy of Education (2019). Since 2013, member of the Board of Trustees of Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov . He is a member of the Public Council under the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation [17] .
