Started playing football in the Ternopil Youth Sports School, coach Zinovy Petrovich Savitsky. He played in the national team of Ukrainian schoolchildren, participated in the All-Union Olympics for students in the Azerbaijan SSR, where he received an invitation to study at the Leningrad Forestry Academy . He played for the student team at the Leningrad Championship, in 1979 he was invited to the Zenit backup team. The only match in the USSR championship was held on November 25, 1979: in the last round, he played the first half in the away match against Ararat. In 1980, in a control match, he received a leg injury, was treated for a long time and lost his place in the squad. He planned to transfer to the team of the first league “Shinnik” Yaroslavl , but returned to his homeland.
