Biography
He was born in the city of Tsivilsk in the family of the leader of the Polish national liberation movement Vladislav Danilovsky (1841-1878), who was exiled from an arbitrary noble family (his father was a judicial officer in Lublin) who was exiled to the Kazan province in 1869. Vladislav Danilovsky, being a student of the Medical and Surgical Academy in Warsaw since 1861, participated in conspiracy activities; in 1862 he was a member of the Central Committee, in 1863 he fled abroad; He was arrested in 1865, earned a reduction in the sentence by explicit testimony and escaped with exile. He graduated from the Warsaw Grammar School. He studied at the Kharkov Institute of Technology . Around 1893 he changed his name to Gustav.
After graduation, he moved to Poland. In 1895 he became a member of the Polish Socialist Party . Together with Stefan Zheromsky organized the cultural and educational society Światło (“Light”) and the People’s University.
A participant in the revolution of 1905, in December 1906, during a meeting of the revolutionary faction, the faculty was arrested. He spent several months in prison. After his release, he moved to Krakow , where he engaged in active literary activity. At the same time, he becomes a member of secret organizations, including the Union of Armed Forces and the Provisional Commission of the Confederation for the Independence of Parties, as a representative of the revolutionary PPP faction.
During the First World War in 1915 he joined the Polish Legion of J. Pilsudski . In 1916 - a member of the Warsaw City Council.
From 1918 to 1922 he held the post of official on special instructions from the interim leader of the Polish state, J. Pilsudski. In 1927, as a result of criticism and conflict with the latter, he left the ranks of the Polish Socialist Party.
He died the same year.
In 1931, he was posthumously awarded the Cross of Independence .
Creativity
Danilovsky’s works are characterized by romantic elation of images, a tendency to symbolism. In the novels “The Train” (1899), “From the Days of Bygone” (“Z minionych dni”, 1902), the novel “The Swallow” (“Jaskółka”, 1905) and stories (the collection “Him” - “Nego”, 1900) in allegorical images tried to express faith in the historical mission of the proletariat as a savior of mankind, created images of revolutionary youth, showed the struggle of the old and new worlds.
