The Baptism of Constantine ( Italian: Battesimo di Costantino ) is a fresco made in the workshop of Raphael by one of his students. Presumably its author is Gianfranchesko Penny [1] . It was written between 1517 and 1524.

After the death of Raphael in 1520, his students, including Gianfranchesko Penny, worked on the completion of the begun ghjbpdtltybq for the Apostolic Palace in the Vatican. Today, this complex, where the work is located, is called the Stanza of Raphael . The fresco of Baptism of Constantine is located in the Sala di Costantino (Hall of Constantine).
In the center of the fresco is Constantine the Great , kneeling before Sylvester I , at the time of baptism. The action takes place in the Lateran Basilica . The artist betrayed the resemblance between the depicted Sylvester and Clement VII , by whose decree the work on the mural was continued. Adrian VI, who ruled the Vatican for a year, sought simplicity and modesty in the church, as a result of which he closed the Belvedere and ordered that work on paintings commissioned by the previous pope be stopped. Sylvester pours water on Konstantin's head and reads from a book. On the pages of the book you can see the text Hodie salus Urbi et Imperio facta est (Today Rome and the Emperor are saved). Left and right are the contemporaries of the artist, Charles V and Francis I. Under each of them are inscriptions: Lavacrum Renascentis Vitae C. Val. Constantini (left) and Clemens VII Pont. max. a Leone X Coeptum Consumavit MDXXIIII (right).
Despite the peace and static inherent in the Renaissance , the work is more inclined to mannerism .
