To the west of the station are the largest student dormitories, in particular, the campuses Kringsjå and Fjellbirkeland. This line is a very convenient means of transportation for students, since the University of Oslo is located near the Blindern and Forskningsparken stations of the same line.
The station has 2 onshore concrete platforms, on which there are several sheds of steel and glued timber , and on the back side of the platform - steel masts of lighting.
History
The station was opened on October 10, 1934 as a stop on the tram line from “ Majorstuen ” (in the city center) to “ Sognsvann ” in the north. The part of the line between Majorstuen and Korsvoll stations (now Ø Østhorn ) was initially double-track, and from Korsvoll station to Sognsvann - single-track. On February 21, 1939, this section was improved to double track, and the Korsvoll station was renamed to Østhorn.
In the 1990s, the Oslo Metro was modernized, and many of its stations were rebuilt: their platforms were extended both in length (to allow reception of four-car trains instead of previously used two-car trains) and in height, and a contact rail was laid between tracks. . The tracks of the stations, originally intended for light rail transport , were redeveloped to enable the use of metro trains. These changes have affected the station.
