Biography
He began to write poetry from the age of 18. First in Hebrew, then in Yiddish. He often performed songs in his own words. The popularity of songs grew, and he had to create an itinerant song collective, touring the cities and towns of modern Moldova, Romania, Ukraine and Southern Russia, as well as in Poland. The first collections of poems and songs were performed in Hebrew (1848 and 1855). In 1864, the poem “Romania” was published in the magazine Hashahar, containing a satire on the anti-Semitic policies of the Romanian government. His popularity competed with Eliakum Zunzer himself. In 1878-1880 he lived and performed in Vienna until he was forced to leave for Istanbul.
During the Second World War, the famous literary critic Naum Oislander was a popularizer of Zbarger's work.
