Atlah is a medieval city in the territory of modern Kazakhstan . Near Atlah in 751 between the Chinese and Arabs the battle of Talas took place . According to al-Makdisi and Ibn Haukal ( X century ), Atlah was located near the city of Isfijab in the Talas Valley in the north of the city of Taraz . Al-Maqdisi wrote: “Atlah is a large city, approaching the main city in area, with a wall around it. Most of it is gardens, and in the rustak vineyards prevail. Cathedral mosque in medina , and markets in ribat . ”
Atlah is identified with the Juantobe settlement (Juvan-tobe), which is located 12 kilometers south of Taraz. A significant argument is the discovery of the word "Atlah" on a stone fragment found on the territory of Zhuantobe.
