About the album
For many, the sound of the record was unexpected: saturated with aggressive guitars, the songs had little in common with electronic dance music, which by that time was associated with New Order. As explained by Bernard Sumner , this is a kind of return to the origins: the group for many years was fond of synthesizers , while guitars were originally their main instrument, even from the first Joy Division records in the punk rock genre, moreover, according to his admission, he was influenced by the XTRMNTR Primal Scream album. The opening album, Crystal, as well as another single from the album, Someone Like You, are the only more or less electronic dance songs on Get Ready. In general, the sound of “Get Ready” inherited the album “Raise The Pressure” (1999) by Sumner Electronic and the song “Brutal” New Order from the movie “ Beach ” (2000). The song “Player In The League” planned for the album was released in 2002 on the single “Here To Stay”. The recordings were attended by Bobby Gillespie from Primal Scream and Billy Corgan from Smashing Pumpkins , who not only sang a duet in “Turn My Way”, but also played several concerts with New Order as a guitarist, replacing the compelled to leave the group after recording the album Gillian Gilbert.
