The station was opened on August 20, 2003 as part of the Storo Nebohood ring.
The station is located on the so-called “ring line” formed by sections of lines 3 and 4/6 , and on the section between the stations “Nyudalen” and “ Storo ” the numbering of lines 4 and 6 is interchanged. Trains of lines 3 and 4/6 arrive at the station alternately with a fifteen-minute interval: passing through the General Tunnel , they arrive either from the northern (in the case of line 6) or from the eastern (in the case of lines 3 and 4) Oslo , moving along the ring, respectively either counterclockwise or clockwise. The travel time between the Nyudalen and Storting stations is 13 minutes when moving clockwise and 12 minutes counterclockwise.
The ground lobby of the station serves as a stop for several bus routes.
History
The process of designing and creating a ring line to serve northern Oslo began in the late 1980s. Development plans were approved by the city council in 1997, and in 2000 funding was provided for construction that began in June of that year. The station was opened on August 20, 2003, simultaneously with the Storo station.
The reason for the start of the construction of the Nyudalen station was the conversion of the city from an industrial center to a commercial one during the 1990s and 2000s, due to which about 200 different commercial companies were located in the vicinity of the future station, and by 2007 there were about 14800 jobs. Here, in particular, there are several large companies working in the field of IT and telecommunications - ErgoGroup, Unit4, EDB Business Partner, Visma, TDC , NetCom, as well as such a large media company as Schibsted .
Not far from the station is the building of the Norwegian Police Security Service .
In 2005, the Norwegian School of Management moved to a new building located across the street from the station, and since 2011 the Nyudalen Gymnasium has also been located near the station, which undoubtedly increased the load on the station, as 85% of 7,000 students and teachers use public by transport.
Design
The station’s ground lobby is a composition of vertical and horizontal black basalt panels alternating with large panels and rectangular glass “drawers”, which facilitate the appearance of the lobby. One of these “boxes” is made of red glass panels, symbolizing the red cars of the subway trains, and is a kind of sign.
The platform is faced with white granite, and the track walls are black. Lighting is scattered around the edges of the station's light-paneled ceiling, creating a contrast of white stripes along the edges of the platform ceiling with its dark center.
Behind the translucent panels on the walls of the escalator slope, there are 44 speakers and 1800 fluorescent lights that constantly change color and tone, thus forming an interesting light performance called the “light tunnel”. There are many playable combinations of color changes with an accompanying sound range, provided for various seasons, time of day, etc.
