Biography
The early years
Niksic was born in Gospic, in the Croatian region of Lika . He studied at Gospic Secondary School, studied law at the University of Zagreb and Vienna. He graduated from Vienna University and received a doctorate in law. As a student, he was a member of the youth movement under the Croatian Law Party and headed the Quaternion Discussion Club. He worked as a lawyer in Gospic, Zagreb and in Vukovar . In Vukovar, he published the local newspaper of the Croatian Union and the newspaper of the Croatian Bloc coalition in the 1925 election. He also worked as a lawyer in Yastrebar , Ivanets and Karlovac, headed the Karlovac Municipal Court and the District Court [1] . Since 1929 Niksic was a member of the Ustasha movement.
Independent State of Croatia
In Karlovac, Niksic was one of the first to receive news about the surrender of Yugoslavia in the war with the Germans and the proclamation of independent Croatia, after which he began to rebuild city legislation in accordance with the laws of the National Petrochemical Institute. The head of the NHC Ante Pavelich spent two days in the Niksic’s house, having held negotiations there with the German diplomat Edmund Weesenmeyer and the Italian ambassador Filippo Anfuso [1] . In June 1941, Niksic was appointed headman of the Pokrylyovo district, and in mid-March 1942 he began work at the Ministry of the Interior. A month later, transferred to the Foreign Ministry. He became Minister of the Interior on October 10, 1942 , succeeding Andria Artukovich , and worked in this post until April 29, 1943. For some time he was ambassador to Italy; shortly after the coup, Dino Grandi returned to the Croatian Foreign Ministry [1] .
Emigration
In May 1945, the Ustashi, together with the remnants of parts of the Wehrmacht , numerous collaborators and members of their families, moved to Austria. Niksic at this time was outside the NHC. Taking advantage of the situation, he managed to get out to Argentina. There he settled in the municipality of Pilar in the province of Buenos Aires, where he lived until the end of his days. He published the Croatian emigration newspaper Hrvatska revija [1] .
