History

In 1973, keyboardist Hans Lundin , bassist Thomas Ericsson (both former members of S: T Michael Sect ) and drummer Thomas Sheberg founded the Ura-Kaipa project, in which the musicians performed a mixture of pop , rock , classical and Swedish folk (presenter the role was assigned to the keyboard ). Subsequently, it turned out that such a performance format has few opportunities to satisfy the ambitions of musicians. The group was invited guitarist Royne Stolt . Soon, drummer Thomas Sheberg was also replaced by Ingemar Bergman . The name of the collective was reduced to Kaipa.

The search for the label led the group to Electra Records , which agreed to release their debut self - titled album .

The second album Inget nytt under Solen ( Russian “Nothing New under the Sun” ) differed from the previous one in the complexity of arrangements, although everything was still based on the predominance of keyboards. A characteristic feature of the early albums was that all the songs were performed in Swedish .

By 1977, the group became popular enough in their native Sweden to try to gain popularity on the world stage. The group also finds vocalist Mats Lofgren . Thomas Ericsson was replaced by Thomas Ledin . As such, Kaipa released her third album, Solo . After the traditional tour, the group takes a creative break.

After 2 years, in 1980 their fourth album was released - Händer ( Russian "Hands" ), in 1982 - Nattdjurstid ( Russian "Time of nocturnal animals" ). In the new works, the style of the group underwent major changes: the arrangements were much simplified, the sound became sharper and more straightforward, there was a movement towards the sound aesthetics of the new wave and post-punk . Albums of the 1980s went unnoticed due to the decline in popularity of progressive rock around the world. After the release of the Nattdjurstid album , the band virtually ceased operations.

For about 20 years, nothing was heard about Kaipa, but in 2000, old friends Hans Lundin and Royne Stolt revived the team. Despite the abundance of material, it took almost 2 years to select musicians and rehearsals. In 2002, the album Notes from the Past ( Russian "Notes from the Past" ) was updated by Kaipa. In the album, the group managed to preserve the style of the 70s, giving it a more modern sound. An important feature was that the new songs were in English.

Immediately after the release of Notes from the Past, the musicians began to prepare the next album - Keyholder ( Rus. "Keyman" ), released in 2003 . Keyholder sounded a little tougher than the previous album, which, however, did not affect its sales.

In 2005, another group album was released - Mindrevolutions ( Rus. "Revolution of the mind" ). In general, he also received positive reviews [1]

Kaipa da Capo

In 2014, Royne Stolt, together with two other members of the original Kaipa line-up, drummer Ingemar Bergman and bass player Thomas Erickson formed the group Kaipa da Capo ( Russian Kaipa from the beginning ) in order to perform new music in the style of the early albums of the original Kaipa. Other participants in the project were Royne Stolt's younger brother Michael as vocalist and second guitarist and keyboardist Max Lorenz. In this composition, the “updated” Kaipa made a world tour in which the material of the first three albums was performed. In 2016, Kaipa da Capo released the first studio album Dårskapens monotoni ( Russian Monotony of Recklessness ) and in the fall of that year went on a new tour of Europe and Scandinavia.

In 2017, the Live album was released , recorded at a concert in Stockholm in February of the same year.
