Biography
Grew in the Grodno , Lublin and Kholmsky provinces. In the fall of 1914, the family moved to Chernigov , where Yurkov studied at the classical gymnasium, was a member of the student literary circle. [1] He wrote poetry from early childhood, compiled manuscript almanacs (one page autographed by the thirteen-year-old Yurkov was preserved in the family).
In October 1919, when the Denikinites conquered the city, Yurkov voluntarily joined them - but six months later he also voluntarily transferred to the Red Army . With the Red Army, he reached Astrakhan . He fought in Asia, where he fell ill with tuberculosis . In 1922, he was discharged and settled in Kiev , where his relatives moved from Chernigov .
There Yurkov begins to be regularly published (although the first publication - the poem "In the Field" - was published back in 1919 in the journal "Education" under the pseudonym Igor Ende ). Often visited the literary association "Property". Later, Yurkov is part of the ARP group (Association of Revolutionary Writers). He is constantly criticized - both in literary circles and in the media - for the excessive complexity of verses, remoteness from Soviet reality. Yurkov tried to print his works in Moscow, but to no avail. He managed to hold the only book "Poems" three weeks before his death, in his hands, but reacted to it mediocre: poems were randomly selected and printed with distortions.
On August 30, 1929, he died in Boyark near Kiev from tuberculosis, and was buried there. His grave, which over time was leveled to the ground, is located on the edge of the oldest cemetery in Boyark. It is still not indicated in any way. His name was not remembered until the Thaw , and then until the 2000s.
Poets Nikolai Ushakov , Dmitry Bykov and others spoke positively of Igor Yurkov’s poems. [1]
