  Boxing

Quotas won by athletes are personalized. If two or more athletes win a trip to the Games from one country, then the right to choose a boxer is granted to the National Olympic Committee. Boxing competitions are held in the playoffs. To win the Olympic tournament, the boxer must win either four or five victories, depending on the draw of the competitions. Both athletes who lose in the semifinal matches become owners of bronze awards.

  Художественная гимнастика

Women

Men

Women

The only medal in the women's part of the Korean national team competition was brought by Jung Bogen in the category up to 48 kg . Before the start of the competition, the Korean woman was seeded under the 8th number, so she started right away from the second round. During the tournament, the Korean judoka won three early victories, winning among others the experienced Cuban player Dayaris Mestre Alvarez and the leader of the world ranking from Mongolia, Munkhbatyn Uranzetsag . In the finale, Jung Bogyun met with Argentinean judoka Paula Pareto . The only effective action for the duel was the cut, which Pareto was able to perform, thanks to which she became the Olympic champion.

  Sailing

Sailing competitions in each class consisted of 10 races, with the exception of class 49, where 12 races were held. In each race, athletes began the race with a common start. The winner of each race was the crew, the first to cross the finish line. The number of points going to the overall standings corresponded to the place occupied by the team. According to the results of 10 heats, the top 10 crews got into the medal race, the results of which also went into the overall standings. In the medal race, points earned by the crew doubled. If a competitor was unable to complete the race, he was awarded the number of points equal to the number of participants plus one. In the final scoring, the worst result shown by the crew in one of the races was not taken into account. The team with the fewest points becomes the Olympic champion.

  Modern Pentathlon

Modern pentathlon includes: shooting, swimming, fencing, horseback riding and running. As in previous Games, running and shooting were combined in one form - a combine. In the combine, athletes started with a handicap scored in the previous three disciplines (4 points = 1 second). The Olympic champion is the athlete who crosses the finish line first.

  Shooting

In January 2013, the International Shooting Sport Federation adopted new rules for holding competitions for 2013-2016, which, in particular, changed the order of the finals. In many disciplines, athletes who reached the finals now begin the decisive round without points scored in the qualification, and the finals are held according to the elimination system. Also, in the finals after each round of shooting, the athlete with the least points is eliminated from further struggle. In a high-speed pistol, decisive fights take place on a miss-miss system. A semi-final round was added to the trap shooting, where two participants in the final match and a duel for the third place were determined [7] .

  Archery

In the qualification of the competition archers perform 12 series of shots of 6 arrows at a distance of 70 meters. According to the results of the preliminary round, a playoff grid is drawn up, where in the 1/32 finals, the 1st seeding number meets with the 64th, the 2nd with the 63rd, etc. In elimination fights, athletes perform three shots each. The participant who scored more points for this series gets 2 points. If both archers scored the same number of points, then they get one point each. The archer becomes the winner of the pair, having scored 6 points first.

Women

According to the results of the qualification round in the team tournament, the Koreans took 1st place, beating the closest pursuers from Russia by 60 points. In the playoff round, Korean archers confidently dealt with all rivals, ending each match with a score of 5: 1, while in the final the Koreans won the Russian team, thereby taking revenge for the defeat in the semifinals of the last world championship .

Having won gold medals in Rio de Janeiro, Korean archers extended the series to 8 victories, which began back in 1988, when women's team competitions were first included in the Games program [8] .

  Taekwondo

Taekwondo competitions are held in the elimination system. To win the tournament, the athlete must win 4 victories. Taekwondo players who lost to future finalists during the competition take part in the consolation tournament for two bronze medals. Five South Korean taekwondo athletes took the first six places in the Olympic qualification rating , making South Korea the only country that managed to claim more athletes than the maximum quota for participating in the Rio de Janeiro Games.

Men

Before the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, most taekwondo athletes who performed in the 58 kg category in London moved into a heavier weight category (up to 68 kg), including three winners in 2012 (with the exception of Colombian Oscar Munoz ). The Korean missed the first round of the competition, because his opponent David Bui was unable to take part in the match. Lee's next rival was the little-known Jordanian Ahmad Abugaush . The fight ended with an unexpected victory of Abugaush 11: 8. Due to the fact that the Jordanian was able to reach the finals, Lee received the right to compete for third place. Having gained two confident victories, Lee Dae Hong became the bronze medalist of the Games.

  Weightlifting

Each NOC independently chooses the category in which its weightlifter will perform. As part of the competition, two exercises are carried out - jerk and push. In each exercise, the athlete is given 3 attempts. The winner is determined by the sum of two exercises. In case of equality of results, the victory is awarded to the athlete, with less weight.

  Fencing

In individual competitions, athletes fight three rounds of three minutes, or until one of the athletes delivers 15 injections. In team competitions, the fight goes on 9 rounds of 3 minutes each, or up to 45 injections. If at the end of time a draw is recorded in a duel, then an additional minute is assigned before the “golden” shot.
