Life and work
Information about the life of the icon painter is extremely scarce. According to the Trinity Chronicle , in 1405 he , along with Feofan Grek and Andrei Rublev, painted the Annunciation Cathedral of the Moscow Kremlin [1] . Based on the fact that the chronicler calls Prokhor “an old man” [1] and mentions him before Rublev [1] , V. N. Lazarev concluded: Prokhor was older in age and had greater fame [4] [5] . In addition, the researcher suggested that the old man could be not only a colleague, but also Rublev’s teacher [2] [3] .
Accurately attributed works of the artist are not available. I.E. Grabar attributed to him eight icons from the festive rank of the Annunciation Cathedral: “The Resurrection of Lazarus”, “The Last Supper”, “The Crucifixion”, “The Position in the Sepulcher”, “The Descent into Hell”, “The Ascension”, “The Descent of the Holy Spirit” , "Assumption." This attribution with minor clarifications was adopted by V. N. Lazarev (who excluded the Resurrection of Lazarus from the list) [5] and a number of other researchers who turned to these works both in special scientific articles and in popular publications. Characteristic features of all these works are sharp highlights, juicy glare [5] . Images of human figures are stereotyped: all characters have sharp noses and small graceful hands [5] . The mentioned icons are marked by the influence of Goitan , Semyon and Ivan [3] , the Moscow masters of the 14th century, who, according to the annals, studied under Greek isographs [6] [3] .
