Geographical position
Harrisville is located in northern West Virginia and is the administrative center of Ritchie County. The city is at the intersection of state roads 31 and 16, 5 miles from US 50 [1] . History
The settlement was founded in 1822 by Thomas Harris, who moved his family to his territory in 1807. The city received a city charter in 1832, the first post office opened in 1833, the city was known by the name of Solus. The name changed several times until the final Harrisville version was chosen in 1895 in honor of General Thomas Harris, the founder’s nephew. Richie County was formed in 1843, and the first district court building was built in 1844. The modern courthouse was built in 1923 and is a local landmark. The railway between Pennsboro and Harrisville was built in 1875. Between 1909 and 1929, a broad gauge road was laid between Harrisville and Cornwallis. The school opened in 1894 [1] .

According to the 2010 census, the population of Harrisville was 1,876 people (of which 46.2% were men and 53.8% were women), 787 households, and 496 families.
