Biography

Grigory Shevelev was born on June 3, 1943 in Moscow in the family of one of the organizers of the domestic automobile industry, a participant in the Great Patriotic War, Alexander Grigoryevich Shevelev (1907-1989) and Tatyana Mikhailovna Sheveleva (1911-1999), railway engineer.


In 1967 he graduated from Moscow State University. M.V. Lomonosova, Department of Journalism , specialty "literary employee of radio and television" (1,2), and in 1982, graduate school of the Academy of Social Sciences under the Central Committee of the CPSU, specializing in "Domestic History". Candidate of Historical Sciences, Professor, Faculty of Communications, Media, and Design, National Research University Higher School of Economics (3), Head of the Department of History, Higher School of Television (Faculty) of Television, Moscow State University M.V. Lomonosova (4).


Professional Activities

G. A. Shevelev began his professional and creative career in 1963 at the Main Information Office ("Latest News", "Lighthouse") of the All-Union Radio of the USSR Radio and Television. He worked as a freelance correspondent, editor, special correspondent. One of the creators of the country's first Mayak information and music radio station, was a special correspondent of the program: he prepared its first issues, reported on many of the most important events in the country, participated in broadcasts from Moscow's Red Square on public holidays (5,6,7) .


In 1970 he was invited to the Main Edition of Propaganda of the Central Television of the USSR State Television and Radio Broadcasting: senior editor, correspondent, department head, deputy chief editor. He became the author of many documentaries and television programs about the life of the country, including the film “1973” from the multi-series documentary series “Our Biography” (9), television stories about the builders of BAM and KAMAZ, about people of Siberia and the Far East (10).


In 1983, Grigory Shevelev was appointed Chief Editor of the Main Information Office (“Vremya”) of the Central Television of the USSR State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company. In addition to managing the “Vremya” program, for the first time on domestic television he created the format of morning information and entertainment broadcasting (morning TV channel) (11 ,12).


Shevelev is known as the author and organizer of many major television projects: broadcasts of the main events of the XXII Olympic Games in Moscow (1980), the World International Festival of Youth and Students in Moscow (1985), public holidays and many other important events. During the years of "perestroika" (1985-1990), he took an active part in the democratization of information and socio-political broadcasting on central television. He led the creation of the Projector of Perestroika series of programs; with Vladimir Molchanov and Olvar Kakuchaya, he participated in the creation of the program Before and After Midnight (13,14,15,16,17,18).


In 1988, Grigory Shevelev was appointed to the high post of Deputy Chairman of the USSR State Committee on Television and Radio Broadcasting (USSR State Television and Radio Broadcasting), (20).


Then he worked as the Deputy Chairman of the All-Russian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company Ostankino, the Russian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company Ostankino, the Director General of the television Ostankino. He organized youth and children's broadcasting, production of documentaries, participated in the work on the program “Vzglyad” (21). In early 1993, in connection with with the change of Chairperson of the Ostankino State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company, he was removed from the leadership of television and appointed Representative of a television and radio company in Europe, however, already at the end of 1993, after the well-known events around the Ostankino television center and the hasty decision of the leadership b disable broadcasting, he has been re-invited to the post of Deputy Chairman of RGTRK "Ostankino", Director General of the Central Television.


In the second half of the 1990s, in connection with the difficult financial situation in the country, the question arose about the possibility of the continued existence of the Ostankino State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company. G. A. Shevelev defends the interests of the Ostankino television team, its rich creative potential and established program policy. In this regard, in 1995 he advocated for the Ostankino State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company at the parliamentary hearings in the State Duma of the Russian Federation (22). However, the creation of CJSC Public Russian Television (ORT) on the basis of Ostankino did not fully confirm the fears of its team and G. A. Shevelev was invited to ORT as deputy general director, curator of information television broadcasting. A little later, in the ORT structure, he creates and becomes the first General Director of the Ostankino Television Factory producing television company at ORT (23, 24).


In 1997-1999 Shevelev actively participated in the creation of the non-state television channel REN TV, in the reorganization of broadcasting of the Moscow television channel and in the creation on its basis of the TV Center channel, where he was its first Director General. Since 1999, Grigory Shevelev worked at the Mayak State Broadcasting Company: Deputy Chairman, Editor-in-Chief. During the reorganization of the radio station, he made a significant contribution to updating the oldest information and music radio channel and creating its version for the FM frequency, and participated in the development of the new Mayak formats (5.7). Under his leadership and with creative participation, a series of stock radio films about the Great Patriotic War, cycles of stock documentary radio programs with memoirs of prominent cultural figures, and other major audio productions were created.

Public and teaching activities

Grigory Shevelev is one of the founders and a member of the Academy of Russian Television (TEFI), the first Chairman of the Board of Founders of the same name Fund (25), a member of the International Academy of Television and Radio (26), a member of the Presidium of the Union of Journalists of Moscow (27). As a member of the jury, the head of professional seminars, a participant in many professional festivals and competitions.


Since the mid-90s, G. A. Shevelev has been actively involved in the training of professional journalists for radio and television: he taught at the faculty of international information at MGIMO. Together with the well-known television director, laureate of the State Prize of Russia M.A. Litovchin, he developed the concept of the country's first Humanitarian Institute of Television and Radio, now bearing the name of M.A. Litovchin (28). He is currently teaching special courses on the history of television and information broadcasting, journalism theory and other professional subjects at the Higher School of Economics, at the Higher School of Television, Faculty of Moscow State University. In the second half of the 90s he created and edited the TEFI Review magazine. Edited by G. A. Shevelev, the TEFI Library published several series of professional book publications (29.30, 31.32), as well as several books by Vagrius and Aspect Press (5,8,10,19) ) Over the years, he was a member of the editorial boards of the magazines Sreda, Broadcasting, Telecentre, and other professional media. His articles were published in the collections “Journalism at the Turn of the Century: People and Fates.” (2012), “Return to the Origins” (2008), “Scientific and Educational Notebooks of the Higher School of Television of Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov. Notebook No. 1 ”(2009) and some others.


For fruitful professional activities, Grigory Shevelev was awarded the Order of Friendship of Peoples (1986), the Order of Honor (2006), medals, and other government awards, and was awarded the honorary title "Honored Worker of Culture of the Russian Federation" (2002). He is a laureate of the USSR Union of Journalists of the USSR (1974), he was awarded the national Telegrand Prize (2004).
