Asankozha

Asankozha ( Asan-kozha ) is a complex of historical and architectural monuments of the 18th - early 20th centuries, one of the largest Kazakh religious and funerary structures (264 objects). Dimensions 250 × 210 m. It is located 50 km south-west of the aul Oymauyt Baiganinsky district of Aktobe region , in the valley of the Zhem river. The complex consists of a mausoleum built of chalky limestone , saganates - of sawn blocks, a fence of limestone and mud brick. Among the saganatams, there are 2 monuments of the beginning of the 20th century, in which a complex composition and decor are harmoniously linked with a religious purpose. A large group consists of tombstones ( kulpytasy ) with natural stones ( koytasy ) and texts written in Arabic script. The necropolis structures are characterized by a complex carving technique (filing, tesca, volumetric study of details). The decor, as a rule, was painted.
