Asanas (also Achanas and Eshnas ) is a medieval fortification 48 km southeast of the city of Kyzylorda . In written sources it is mentioned since the time of the Mongol invasion (1220). Then the city was defeated, most of the population died. It was later restored and existed until the XV century. It was investigated in 1899 by V.A. Kallaur , in 1960-1961 and 1968 by the Khorezm archaeological expedition led by N.N. Vaktorskaya. Located on a dry riverbed of Asanas . The dimensions of the citadel are 40 × 50 m, the height is 14 m. The length of the wall of the shahristan surrounding the central part of Asanas is 300 m, the small wall is 200 m. The width of the remains of the fence is 15 m, the height is 5 m. Pottery and other archaeological finds date the ancient settlement VI —XV centuries.
