Biography

Renato Bruzon was born in the commune of Granze in Italy in a family of landless peasants. Mother died when Renato was eight years old, his father worked for a long time to feed two children. From childhood, Bruzon sang in the church choir. He graduated from the Technical Institute in Rovigo , but did not receive a job in his specialty. He began his musical education at the Conservatory of Padua . Relatives did not support Renato's desire for music, believing that in this way he evades from this work. He was surrounded by the opinion that only losers become musicians [5] . Bruzon was able to complete his education thanks to a scholarship and the support of friends, he worked as a janitor and a worker at a sugar factory [6] .

He became the winner of the vocal contest in Spoleto in 1960 [7] . Bruzon’s opera debut took place in 1961 at the Lyrical Experimental Theater in Spoleto in the role of di Moon (Verdi's Troubadour ). The following year, he sang Riccardo (" Puritans " by Bellini ) at the Roman Opera House . He made his debut at the Metropolitan Opera in 1969 as Enrico ( Lucia di Lammermoor Donizetti ). In 1970, under the direction of conductor Riccardo Muti, he sang Renato in Verdi’s opera Ball Masquerade in Florence . A significant debut in La Scala took place in 1972 with the party of Antonio (“ Linda di Chamuni ” by Donizetti), subsequently his career was mainly associated with this theater [3] . Then he performed at the Edinburgh International Festival (1972) as Ezio ( Attila Verdi), in Covent Garden in 1975, he successfully replaced Piero Cappuccilli in the opera Masquerade Ball. He entered the stage of the Vienna Opera in 1978 as Macbeth and was so successful that the most prestigious theater in Austria, one of the most prestigious in the world, awarded him the honorary title Kammersänger .

In 1980, the Florentine Musical May at the festival proposed a new interpretation of the image of Iago (Verdi's Othello ) [6] . In the 1980s, he turned to the music of Mozart , singing Don Giovanni , and to Italian verismo in Giordano 's opera “ Andre Chenier ”. He starred in Zefirelli in the film opera " Country Honor ". Interpretation of Falstaff in Verdi's opera, in particular in a 1982 production directed by Carlo Miriya Giulini , is considered one of the greatest parties in the singer's repertoire. Bruzon is distinguished by his creative longevity, he sang at the Vienna Opera of Germont (Vervi's La Traviata ) at almost seventy years old. This performance was shown at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow in 2003 [7] .

Bruzon is an outstanding master of belcanto. They note an elegant and expressive phrasing , a velvety timbre, one of the most beautiful in half a century, soft sound extraction - virtues due to a natural gift and careful work on oneself. Bruzon is endowed with outstanding acting qualities, elegant and aristocratic, devoid of vulgarity and false pathos. His interpretations of Verdi's roles returned to them a true sound, lost under the influence of the spread of the verist repertoire [1] . Some critics consider Bruzon the best Rigoletto since Tito Gobbi .

Renato Bruzon gives master classes, is the president of the Global Internet Vocal Competition [8] .
