History
The construction of the ChTZ theater building under the Chelyabinsk Tractor Plant under construction began in 1930. It was part of the social city complex at ChTZ. Initially, the constructivism style was chosen for the construction of the building. The theater began work in 1934.
In 1948, the facades and interiors of the theater were reconstructed in the neoclassical style according to a project developed by architect M. A. Lezhen and engineers J. Peltz and S. Kanel. At the same time, the spatial composition of the building was preserved.
The dominant exterior of the building is a large loggia of the main facade with four columns of the Corinthian order . The facades of the building of the theater are decorated with pilasters in the pane windows and high relief compositions made in the form of cartouches with mascarons framed by garlands by sculptor I.N. Kliger. The auditorium of the theater is decorated with bas-relief portraits made in 1948 by the sculptor I.N. Kliger. In 1983, the ceiling in the auditorium was decorated with paintings by K.V. Fokin, and the ceiling of the theater lobby was decorated with the artist V.P. Sorokin. The theater hall is designed for 711 seats.
Now (2016) the building of the ChTZ Theater is part of the department of the Non-governmental institution “Palace of Culture of the ChTZ-URALTRAK LLC”.
