Biography
Christian Franz is the third son of the Duke of Franz Josiah of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld and his wife Anna Sophia of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt , the daughter of Prince Ludwig Frederick I.
Like his brothers Johann Wilhelm and Frederick Josiah , Johann Wilhelm was destined for a military career. In 1756, with the rank of colonel, he entered the service of the imperial army , in 1763 he received the rank of major general . June 20, 1756 became one of the co-founders of the Order of St. Joachim . In 1758 he was captured by the Prussians, but was released and returned to Coburg. Buried in Coburg.
