During the civil war in Nicaragua , advisers from the secret services of Argentina and the CIA were based in Lepaterica [5] .
Between 1980 and 1982, experts from the Argentinean 601th Battalion and Navy School of Mechanics were involved in military training of Nicaraguan contra using the " Argentine experience in the fight against communism ." Funds were allocated by the United States [6] . Training at the training center, called the Argentineans "Fifth" ( Spanish. La Quinta ), was also conducted by officers of the Infantry School Nicaragua National Guard and Honduran Battalion 3-16 fighters [7] . Argentina's aid to Contras was discontinued in 1982 after the Falkland conflict (in which the United States supported Great Britain) [7] [6] [8] .
In August 2005, information appeared in the Honduran media that the private military company Triple Canopy, Inc. , used the base for training mercenaries - citizens of Honduras and Chile , who took part in ensuring the activities of the international coalition forces in Iraq [9] [10] [11] .
