He began to engage in powerlifting in Leninsk-Kuznetsk . In 2004, he won first place at the Leninsk-Kuznetskiy championship. In his junior career, Dmitry won silver (2008) and gold (2009) of the Russian championship. He became the champion of Europe (2009) and the world (2009). He also became the champion of Russia (2010) and the world (2010) in bench press.
