Background

For a long time there was an internecine war between Yuri Zvenigorodsky with his sons and Vasily Dark. After the death of Prince Yuri in 1434 , the struggle for the Moscow throne was continued by his son Vasily. After the next defeat of Vasily Yuryevich, in 1435 a truce was taken between him and Vasily Dark - he recognized himself as a "younger brother". Vasily Kosoy received the inheritance from Dmitrov from the Prince of Moscow. However, in the winter of 1435-1436, he again took military action and captured Galich and Uglich [2] .

Battle Progress

Just before the battle, Vasily Kosoy concluded a short cease-fire with Vasily Dark, and the monk Rusan from the Borisoglebsky monastery was sent for negotiations [3] . However, the Zvenigorod prince was the first to violate this truce and made troops from the village of Boltino, after the Moscow prince dismissed his regiments. The battle took place on May 14, 1436 in the Rostov land on the Cherekh River, between the Volga and the Big Village. The Moscow prince was able to quickly gather troops and fight back. The army of Vasily Kosy was defeated, and he tried to escape, but was captured by Boris Tobolin and Prince Ivan Drutsky [4] [1] . The troops of Vasily Kosy included 400 Vyatchans , at the head of them were the governors Woodpecker and Semyon Zhadovsky [5] [6] .
