James Hodge ( born James Hodge ; July 5, 1891 - September 2, 1970 ) is a Scottish footballer who played as a midfielder .

Football career
He began his career in the club of his hometown, Stenhausmuir . In May 1910, he moved to English Manchester United . Initially advocated for a backup team [1] . In the main lineup, United made its debut on April 17, 1911 in a match against Wensday , having entered the field as a right midfielder. The next season he again played for the reserve team, but since February 1912 he began to be involved in the matches of the first team, having played 10 matches at the position of the flank midfielder. In the 1913/14 season, he was the main player, having played 29 matches in all tournaments. In the 1914/15 season, his brother, John [1], squeezed him out of the main squad. In the main part of the club, James spent five “pre-war” seasons, after which the official tournaments were interrupted due to the war . He took part in the hostilities, was an artilleryman. After the war ended, he returned to Manchester United, having played another season for the club, playing in positions of attack, and scored two goals. In total, from 1911 to 1919 he spent 86 matches for United and scored 2 goals [2] .
In December 1919, for 1,500 pounds he was sold to the Millwall Athletic Club, for which he played until 1922. Subsequently, he played for Norwich City and Southend United .
James's brother, John , also played for Manchester United. The brothers together played for the club before the war, from 1913 to 1915 [1] .
