Sir Arnold Edward Trevor Bax KCVO ( born Arnold Edward Trevor Bax ; November 8, 1883 , Stratham , South London , UK - October 3, 1953 , Cork , Ireland ) is a British composer, conductor, pianist and teacher.

Biography

Born in a traditional Victorian family. Father Alfred Ridley Bax ( Eng. Alfred Ridley Bax ; 1844-1918), mother Charlotte Ellen nee Lea ( Eng. Charlotte Ellen, née Lea ; 1860-1940). Brother of writer . In the 1890s he attended the Hampstead Conservatory. In 1900-1905 he studied at the Royal Academy of Music under Frederic Corder (composition) and Tobias Mattei (piano). In 1910 he took a trip to Russia, where he fell in love with Natalya Skarginskaya, who became his muse for many years. Being in St. Petersburg I fell in love with ballet. Nevertheless, returning to England in 1911, he married the pianist Elsita Luisa Sobrino ( Spanish. Elsita Luisa Sobrino ). He wrote music for plays and films ( Oliver Twist , Browning Version and others). He taught in Dublin and Cork . In 1942 he was awarded the title Master of Royal Music .

In 1992, the British director Ken Russell directed the television series about the composer "The Secret Life of Arnold Bucks" (the role of the composer was played by Russell himself).

In October 1953, Bucks suddenly died of heart failure. He was buried at St. Finbarra Cemetery in Cork.
