Football career
Kresic was a pupil of the football club “ Hajduk Split ”, but still in his youth he left Croatia to try himself in American football. In 1967, he moved to Cleveland Stokers . After the American stage, he moved to Belgium (" Beveren "), and in 1970 he moved to Serbia (" Bor " and " OFK ")
In 1975, he changed “ OFC ” to Spanish “ Burgos ”, for two years he performed in La Liga . At the age of 29, he decided to finish his football career, the last club for him was the Houston Hurricane
Coaching career
Hajduk Split
His coaching career began in the youth of the football club " Hajduk Split ". Future Croatian stars such as Robert Jarni , Igor Stimac , Alain Boksic , Boban, Zvonimir , Slaven Bilic and Alesha Asanovic passed through his hands. In 1986, he finally got his chance to coach the first team.
Real Burgos
In 1987, he began his coaching career in Spain. His first club was Burgos , where he played ten years ago. The club got rid of debts, but the club where it played was no longer there, instead it was created by Real Burgos , which until 1987 turned out to go to Segundo . With Kresic, Real Burgos made his debut in the second division, at the end of the season the team took 13th place, and the club decided to extend the contract with him. In his second season, Sergiy, after 8 rounds, was dismissed from his post as head coach.
Marbella
We can say that Sergiy Kresich wrote the brightest pages in the history of the football club "Marbella". He also strengthened his prestige as a Spanish coach while coaching on the Costa del Sol .
In December 1989, he headed Marbella, which was in Segunda B with 7 points. His work in the new club was noticeable, but he was not able to save the club from being poured. Marbella had a chance to stay, but a draw in the last round did not save them from relegation.
The club is confident that Kresic will be able to improve the situation for the better. The following season (1990/91), Sergie fully strengthened the line-up and won first place in Tercy Group 9, breaking all records (top scorer, more wins and fewer losses).
In the new season, the team continues the tradition. The head coach, deciding not to strengthen the line-up and continue playing with the same players that played that season. The team finishes the season in the first place and after the playoff matches it still goes to Segunda . Thus, Sergie Kresic becomes the first in the history of the coach, who manages to bring the club to the second division .
In the 1992/93 season, Marbella makes her debut in Segunda, and Kresic continues to trust the players who helped him out first in Segunda B and then in the second division . After a decent start, the team was in the middle of the standings. As a result, due to the intervention of the mayor of Marbella , the team ranked seventh, although the club was one step away from the exit in La Liga .
Real Betis and Merida
Shortly after leaving Marbella, he moved to Real Betis , but in March 1994 he was dismissed. The next three years, Kresic coached Merida
Las Palmas
In 1999, he headed Las Palmas and at the end of the season he was able to lead the team in La Liga . In the new season, he took 11th place with 46 points.
Mallorca
In October 2001, he became a Mallorca coach, where he worked for most of the 2001/02 season, and was fired two rounds before the end of the championship.
Recreativo, Valladolid, Murcia
In the 2000s, coached various Spanish teams, such as: “ Recreativo ”, “ Real Valladolid ” and “ Real Murcia ”
Numancia
July 1, 2008 it became known that Sergie Kresic will be the new coach of Numancia . He made his debut with a victory, at home with a minimum score overcame " Barcelona " (1: 0). But February 17, 2009 was fired due to poor results.
Las Palmas
In the 2009/10 season he returns to Las Palmas , but on April 12, 2010 he was fired for unsatisfactory results.
Hajduk Split
