Killing Time (game)

The player controls an Egyptologist student imprisoned in the 1930 version of Matinikus Island on the estate of the wealthy heiress Tess Conway. In 1932, on the summer solstice, Tess, while trying to use the mystical ancient Egyptian water clocks that give eternal life, disappeared with all her community friends. The player's goal is to find and destroy the Water Clock, and reveal all the secrets of the estate, passing levels with the horrors created by the estate.

In Killing Time , the main character, an Egyptologist student, reveals the mystery of an extinct Egyptian artifact. The ancient "Thoth's Water Clock" was discovered by Egyptology professor Dr. Hargrove, but the artifact soon disappeared after visiting the expedition sponsor Tess Conway. Tess is a wealthy heiress to the property, living on the island of Matinikus with her friends, and looking for the opportunity to get eternal life with the help of the Water Clock. When passing the game, the player learns that Tess used many people to achieve her goal, but at a terrible price, turning them into undead, ghosts and demons.

The gameplay is a classic first-person shooter using many weapons. Of the weapons in the game there is a crowbar, a shotgun, a Thompson submachine gun, Molotov cocktails, a flamethrower, and also the Magic Ankh, which can destroy many enemies at a time. There is no multiplayer in the game. To win the game, you need to collect a series of vases that are scattered throughout the island of Matinikus, each of which contains a symbolic part of the soul of Tess Conway. Some sections of the game require strafe, bend down or jump. The original release was in a red disk. With him, players found glitches at the level of the Clown. The screen became pixelated and it was impossible to see anything. The publisher allowed to send them red disks, in return they received black disks, with a fixed bug. But the black version remains quite rare at the moment. Using the 3DO Game Guru disc, you could download a save file that fixes this glitch.

• "Tess Conway" (played by actress Lisa Bruno): the heiress of the wealth of her parents, as well as the Conway estate, she will stop at nothing to achieve what she wants. Obsessed with being beautiful and young forever, acquires the Egyptian Water Clock to stop time itself. Tess keeps his friends close to him, providing them with food and drinks to achieve their true goals. When she finally gets the power of the Water Clock, she is killed, and she turns on the power of the Water Clock too soon to survive, and curses the killer. As a result, the experiment goes wrong, imprisoning all the people on this island. Tess and her friends become evil spirits, and the rest turn into thoughtless zombies.
• Duncan DeRice: A friend of Tess who has connections in the black market. Duncan is an ambitious smuggler working his way through the underworld. His goal is to marry Tess and get the estate, for this he does everything that she asks. With her temper and stinginess, it is not surprising that Duncan decides to kill her when he realizes that there will be no marriage. With her last breath, Tess curses Duncan, filling him with Seth's evil soul.
• Byron: Tess's archeological friend, fell in love with Tess, helping to decipher the instructions for turning on the Water Clock. All his efforts to get Tess's favor are in vain, and Byron is another pawn of hers. He turns out to be smarter than someone, knowing the true power of the Water Clock, observing Tess's attempts to gain immortality.
• “Mike”: a policeman hired by Duncan, Mike follows Duncan and makes sure everything runs smoothly. Officially being the guard of the estate, he does not find any occupation for himself most of the time. He appears only once in the game to warn of the dangers of Duncan and Tess.
• Robert: He was the butler of their estate for such a long time that he remembers Tess’s childhood. Perhaps one of the innocent characters in the game, mourns the fate of Tess, left without parents, and beware of Duncan. He is Byron's only friend, often appears in the game to tell where the player is heading. Robert does not like what is happening around, but remains committed to the fate of the Conway family.
• “Lydia Twakesbury”: Tess’s childhood friend, Lydia hangs on the island for mysterious reasons, although it seems that Tess is two steps ahead of Lydia in everything that happens on the estate. Lydia later admits in the game that she is tired of being in the shadow of Tess, and wants to get as much information as possible for Duncan. Both Duncan and Mike are attracted to Lydia, as she is beautiful. Yet she remains imprisoned on this island, spending time drinking alcohol.
• "Angela Conway": Tess's niece, this ghost of a young girl appears in the castle to recite mysterious poems. She is wise beyond her years, she understands what to do and where to go if someone decrypts her riddles.
