It was founded in the first half of the 16th century on the high bank of the Upa River, 4 km from the city of Odoev by Prince Ivan Mikhailovich Vorotynsky . Perhaps its foundation is connected with the victory of Vorotynsky over the Crimean Tatars near Tula in 1517. The monastery got its name in honor of the first abbot of hegumen Anastasia.
The five-domed stone Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary was built in 1669–1676, replacing the old wooden church. The main volume is adjoined by single-headed quadruples of chapels of the VMCh. Catherine and Varlaam Khutynsky. In those same years, a three-tier bell tent was erected, which is connected to the cathedral by a two-tier arched gallery. The monastery complex includes a refectory, cell buildings and other buildings, a cemetery.
Among the donors of the monastery are Odoevsky nobleman and Moscow governor Mikhail Petrovich Kolupaev and his grandson, his senator , general-general Aleksey Ivanovich Tarakanov [1] .
In the second half of the 18th century, the monastery fell into decay and was abolished in 1764 . The temple functioned as a parish church until 1931, when it was closed and partially destroyed. Since 2002, the monastery has been recreated, construction work is underway. New buildings are stylized under the " pattern " of the pre-Petrine time.
