Biography
He was born on December 7, 1901 in Mogilev (now Belarus ) in the family of an employee, where he spent his childhood and youth. In Mogilev, he also graduated from the local gymnasium and decided to try his hand at enrolling in the MAA ; for this, he decided to move to Moscow and he managed to enter the MAA in 1920, and in 1925 graduated from it. In 1925, his thesis fell into the hands of N.I. Vavilov, and he invited Alexander Lutkov to work in the VIR . Also, G. D. Karpechenko, who was connected with Alexander Lutkov not only by scientific work, but also by strong friendship, which was interrupted by the unexpected arrest of G. D. Karpechenko and his imprisonment, also went to VIR.
G. D. Karpechenko was shot on July 28, 1941 at the Kommunark training ground in Moscow, and Alexander Nikolaevich Lutkov deeply experienced the tragic passing away of his colleague and best friend. Meanwhile, mass persecution of genetics and genetics began in the USSR , N.I. Vavilov and G.D. Karpechenko were arrested, and Alexander Nikolaevich was forcibly fired from the VIR .
During the Great Patriotic War, was the head of the medical laboratory at the military hospital. In 1943 he was demobilized.
In 1943 - 1955 he worked at the All-Union Scientific Research Institute of the Essential Oil Industry. In 1955, he moved to Leningrad to work at the Botanical Institute of the USSR Academy of Sciences , and since 1958 he moved to the Institute of Cytology and Genetics of the Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences in Novosibirsk .
He died on August 17, 1970 in Novosibirsk .
Scientific work
The main scientific works are devoted to the development of problems of mutational variation and experimental morphogenesis in plants in connection with auto and allopolypoloidy and the study of the ways of using polyploidy in breeding.
- He led the work on the development of the best domestic polyploid sugar beet hybrids.
- Created three highly productive mint varieties.
