Gameplay
The game is made as a 2D cartoon. The player controls Lilly. Unlike most other adventure games, there are no interactive dialog boxes. After the player clicks on the symbol, a strip will appear with some symbols indicating the subject. The game does not have a list of actions, such as Walk, Watch, Talk, Pick, Use, which was characteristic of Edna & Harvey: The Breakout . Harvey's New Eyes only has two actions distributed between the mouse buttons: interact and see. In addition, the user must combine objects in his inventory to create new ones (or modify existing ones). Items in inventory can be assigned to other characters or can be combined with items not in inventory. Also, it became possible to highlight all objects that are active for interaction, which greatly simplifies the gameplay and allows you to not engage in pixel hunting .
During the game, in addition to the usual inventory, a prohibition panel appears. There are 8 bans in the game: "Play with fire", "Cross-talk to adults", "Drink alcohol", "Lie", "Be in dangerous places", "Touch sharp objects", "Get angry" and "Do what you want." Each ban is personified by a Harvey rabbit, and if the ban is set, then when you try to do a forbidden action, Lilly will be shocked and Harvey will appear asking if Lilly is going to do something forbidden. Only one prohibition can be ignored at a time.
Story
The game begins in a strict boarding school under the guidance of a convent. The head of the monastery order is the abbess Ignaz. One of the students is Lilly, the main character. She is a shy, insecure little girl who does not dare to speak in public. She does not have her own opinions (or she is afraid to express them), and she performs all the tasks that load her. The other student is Edna, and obviously she's not as crazy as she was in The Breakout.
Ignaz no longer withstands children's behavior. That is why she wants to invite Dr. Marcel. He must brainwash children so that they are good and humble. When Edna hears this news, she wants to run away: she pushed Dr. Marcel from the stairs at the end of the Breakout to escape from him. Now she is afraid that Dr. Marcel wants to take revenge if he finds her. That's why Edna gives Lilly the task of removing all evidence of Edna's presence. In the process of searching and destroying evidence of Edna's presence, Lilly accidentally kills most of the inhabitants of the shelter.
Lilly discovers that Gerrett, one of the older students, is an undercover agent. He wants to expose the abuse of Ignaz. He also warns Lilly that she can be caught by Marcel, which ultimately happens. Marcel uses Harvey's rag doll to mesmerize Lilly. Hypnosis does not allow Lilly to do the following: play with fire, disobey adults, lie, drink alcohol, use sharp objects, go into dangerous places and get angry. Every time Lilly commits a violation, hypnosis causes her an electric shock. At this time, a demon version of Harvey appears and tells Lilly that she did wrong. Gerrett gives Lilly the truth serum that Ignaz should drink. By doing this, Gerrett discovers that the misbehavior is caused by childhood injury. Gerrett also tells Lilly that she can defeat hypnosis by fighting demon prohibitions. This action makes her go into a trance. In these trance worlds, she can find solutions to get rid of the inhibitions one by one.
Edna, meanwhile, ran away from the boarding school, and Lilly and Gerrett tried to find her. Edna is abducted by some men who work for Marseille. They took her to a mental hospital. Gerrett seeks help while Lilly enters a psychiatric hospital. Lilly eventually finds Edna in her former cell, where both Gerret and Brainwashed Ignaz are held captive. Lilly can get Ignaz out of trance. Ignaz regrets his actions and gives Lilly a knife to save Edna and Gerret. But before freeing her friends, she decides to go and deal with Marcel. Marcel is trying to convince Lilly that she is very ill and needs therapy. Edna recalls what happened in The Breakout. Since Lilly has overcome all her limitations, she can do whatever she wants. This leads to the fact that the game has three different endings: it strikes Marcel, she confirms that she is ill and goes to therapy, or she objects and leaves.
