Jana Šmidákova ( Czech Jana Šmidáková ; November 6, 1983 , Ostrava ) - a Spanish kayak racer of Czech origin, played for the Spanish national team in the mid-2000s and early 2010s. Biography
Yana Shmidakova was born on November 6, 1983 in the city of Ostrava, Moravian-Silesian Region , but subsequently moved to Spain for permanent residence. She began to actively engage in rowing from early childhood, was trained in Oviedo in the local canoe club of the same name.
The first serious success at the adult international level was in 2003, when she joined the main team of the Spanish national team and attended the World Championships in the American Gainesville, from where she brought silver and bronze dignity awards won in the standings of four-seater kayaks at 200 and 500 meters respectively. A year later, she performed at the European Championships in Polish Poznan, where she won the fours at two hundred meters and became the bronze medalist in fours at five hundred meters.
Thanks to a series of successful performances, she won the right to defend the honor of the country at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens - she started here in four at a distance of 500 meters along with such rowers as Maria Isabel Garcia , Beatrice Manchon and Teresa Portela , managed to reach the final stage of the tournament, but in the decisive race finished only fifth, not reaching the prize positions a bit.
In 2005, Shmidakova won silver and bronze medals at the world championship in Zagreb, at a distance of 200 meters among twos and fours. At the 2008 European Championships in Milan, she added to the track record a bronze award received in the half-kilometer four-piece kayak program. Being one of the leaders of the rowing team of Spain, she successfully qualified for the Olympic Games in Beijing - together with Betris Manchon, Teresa Partela and Sonia Molanes, repeated the result of four years ago, reached the final in four and five hundred meters and took the final fifth place.
After the Beijing Olympics, Yana Shmidakova remained in the main team of the Spanish national team and continued to take part in major international regattas. So, in 2009, she went to represent the country at the World Championships in Canadian Dartmouth and took bronze in a half-kilometer program of four-seater crews. The following season, at the European Championship in Corvera, she won another bronze medal in the same discipline. The last time she showed any significant result at the international level in 2012, when she performed at the European Championships in Zagreb and won another bronze medal in doubles per kilometer. I tried to qualify for the Olympic Games in London , but could not do it because of too high competition. Shortly thereafter, she decided to end the career of a professional athlete, losing her place in the national team to young Spanish rowers.
