Story

The style and theme of the story “Forest Brothers”, as, incidentally, its plot and time of development of the action relate the readers to the earlier story by A. Gaidar - “Life for nothing (Lbovshchina)” . "Forest Brothers" are a kind of continuation of the book about Alexander Lbov .

A group of Ural militants led by workers, brothers Alexei and Ivan Davydov, are conducting a series of terrorist operations near the Aleksandrovsky Plant and the Lunyevsky coal mines (mines) located in the north of the Perm province . At first, the Davydov detachment was associated with partisan Alexander Lbov [2] .

Creation History

A. Gaidar conducted the story in early 1927, during a short visit to Perm and Yekaterinburg. As the writer notes in the prologue, “Forest Brothers” are created on a historical basis, only minor characters have become fictional.

A year earlier, in order to collect working materials, he visits Aleksandrovsk , where he stops for two days with the widow of a certain Timshina, who assisted the Davydov brothers. According to the memories of Timshina, Gaidar was interested in the smallest details. Leaving Aleksandrovsk, the writer said:

I will write a book about Davydovs. We must not forget brave people [3] .

The second Ural novel by A. P. Gaidar, “Forest Brothers”, after the first publication was a brilliant success [2] . Readers of the Ural Worker, accustomed to petty everyday stories , were enthusiastic about a sharp, fascinating story [2] .

Criticism

One of those who responded to the story "Forest Brothers" was a Soviet writer and journalist P. P. Bazhov . He left the following review about the book:

In such conditions it was a noticeable literary phenomenon when the pages of the Ural Worker began to print with the continuation of the story of Arkady Gaidar, who then worked in the newspaper ... Maybe there were many literary flaws in it ... but I remember how much this story made an impression on readers . Apparently, people immediately felt that a new person had come, who revealed the theme of revolutionary romance in a fascinating and simple manner [4] .
