The Order of Lenin The Moscow District of the Air Force and Air Defense is an operational-strategic territorial association of the Air Force of the Russian Federation , which existed from 1998 to September 1, 2002, to fulfill the tasks of air defense of administrative and economic facilities. The district office was in Moscow.

Organization Building History
The air defense of Moscow dates back to April 25, 1918, when the Military Leader of the Moscow Region issued Order No. 01 of 04.25.1918, in accordance with which the Moscow Air Defense Directorate was established.
The units, formations and associations that performed the air defense tasks of Moscow, depending on the current situation and the tasks to be solved, had various organizational forms:
- Air Defense Department of Moscow (from 04.25.1918);
- 1st separate territorial-position anti-aircraft artillery division (1924)
- 31st separate anti-aircraft artillery division (1924-1929);
- 1st Air Defense Brigade (from 09.21.1929);
- 1st Air Defense Division (from 08.17.1931);
- 1st Air Defense Corps (from January 11, 1938);
- Moscow Air Defense Zone (since June 1941);

The Moscow Air Force and Air Defense District was formed in 1998 on the basis of the formations and units of the Moscow Air Defense District and the 16th Red Banner Air Army .
In connection with the ongoing reform of the Armed Forces of Russia, the Moscow District of the Air Force and Air Defense was reorganized on September 1, 2002 into the Special Forces Command .

Rewards
For his great contribution to strengthening the defense power of the Soviet state and its armed defense, successes in military and political training, and in connection with the fiftieth anniversary of the SA and the Navy, the Moscow Air Defense District was awarded the Order of Lenin by Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of June 22, 1968. The order was transferred to the Moscow Air Force and Air Defense District about succession.
