Criticism
BuzzFeed offered a list of 6 inaccuracies, starting with how Carrie dressed and contrasted with how Hillary Clinton , among other diplomats, dressed during their tours, describing security protocols, the capital of Pakistan, and the ethnic characterization of Pakistanis as Arabs, rather than like Indo-Aryans . [36]
The Washington Post Laura Durkey criticized the show for perpetuating cultural stereotypes and Islamophobia . [37]
According to media reports, Pakistani officials were unhappy with the image of Pakistan in the fourth season. Nadim Khotiana, a spokeswoman for the Pakistani Embassy, said: "The denigration of a country that was a close partner and ally of the United States is detrimental not only to US security interests, but also to the people of the United States." [38] The source was quoted as saying: “ Islamabad is a quiet, picturesque city with beautiful mountains and lush greenery. In the "Homeland", he is depicted as a dirty hole and a war zone, where there are plenty of shootings and bombs explode with corpses scattered around. There is nothing left of the truth. ” [38] Officials also criticized the “absurd” portrayal of terrorist attacks in Pakistan, saying: “The repeated insinuations that Pakistan’s intelligence agency is an accomplice in protecting terrorists at the expense of innocent Pakistani civilians are not only absurd, but also an insult to the absolute victims of thousands of Pakistani security personnel in the war on terrorism. ” [38]
