Biography
Gina Manes was born on April 7, 1893 in Paris in the family of a furniture seller. Grew up in the suburbs of Saint-Antoine. After acting, she was an actress at the Palais Royal, Capucines and Bouffes-Parisiens theaters. The actor and director Rene Navarre drew attention to the young actress and recommended her to the famous cinematographer Louis Feyad.
In the cinema, the actress made her debut in 1916, starring in the film Edouard Emile Violett “Six Little Hearts of Six Girls”. The popularity of the actress brought the role of the innkeeper's daughter in the film directed by Jean Epstein's " Faithful Heart " (1923).
In silent films, Gina Manes has created the image of a vamp woman, a seductive fatal beauty in the films “Train without Eyes” (1926, directed by Alberto Cavalcanti ), “ The Soul of the Artist ” (1924, directed by Germain Dulac ), “Napoleon” by Abel Gans (1927, role Josephine de Beauharnais). In the years 1927-1928, she starred in Sweden in films directed by Gustav Molander and Richard Levenheld.
In the late 1930s, Gina Manes and her husband, Georges Charlier, went to Morocco. In the 1940s, she became fascinated with the circus, studied the circus skill of dressage in the Winter Circus of Medrano, and performed at the circus arena. In 1942, Jean was seriously wounded by a tiger and the actress left the circus arena.
In 1949, Gina Manes again goes to Morocco to shoot the film “The Dancer from Marrakesh” and opens the drama school in the Moroccan capital Rabat. In 1954, finally returned from Morocco to France.
In the 1950s and 1960s, Manes starred in films in supporting roles. She joined the Grenier theater troupe in Toulouse, where she successfully performed in classical and modern repertoire.
The last role in the movie Gina Manes played in 1965 in the film Sergio Gobbi "Do not panic."
