Career
Sydney was born in Alegreti and began his professional career at the Internacional club, becoming part of the team that won the 2007 South American Recope . July 24, 2008 he signed a five-year contract with the Portuguese “ Benfica ”, which paid 5 million euros for 50% of the rights to the player [2] .
In his first season in Portugal, Sydney infrequently appeared in the roster, however, he managed to play 24 matches in the league and score 3 goals, including in the winning derby against Sporting on September 27, 2008.
In November 2008, Benfica bought the remaining 50% of the rights to a football player for 2 million euros [3] . However, in the 2009/10 season, Sydney played only 5 matches. That year, Benfica regained the league title five years later.
After spending the first half of the 2010/11 season on the bench, Sydney returned to the starting lineup after selling David Louis at Chelsea through the winter transfer window. On February 21, 2011, he was removed in a league game against Sporting, but the Eagles still managed to win 2-0 [4] . On March 28, 2011, Sydney extended his contract for another three years, until 2016 [5] . However, after several unsuccessful matches, the player lost his place at the base of Zhardel [6] .
In June 2011, Turkish Besiktas agreed with Benfica on the details of Sydney's lease for one year with the option of a subsequent repurchase [7] . September 19, he made his first career double - at the gates of Ankaragucu [8] .
The Turks did not use the option of redeeming the Sydney contract [9] , and the player returned to Portugal, however, the team management did not count on him and transferred him to the reserve team. On July 29, 2013, Sydney and Pizzi were leased to Espanyol for one year [10] .
On September 1, 2014, Sydney moved to Deportivo La Coruna , also on loan. [11] The player played in the first season in 32 matches, and the club extended the lease for another year [12] .
