The Law “On Citizenship of Ukraine” [1] ( Ukrainian: About the Ukrainian community ; number - No. 2235-III) - the law adopted by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on January 18, 2001 to determine the legal content of citizenship of Ukraine , the basis and procedure for its acquisition and termination, authority public authorities involved in resolving issues of citizenship of Ukraine, the procedure for appealing decisions on issues of citizenship, actions or inaction of public authorities, their officials and officials.

History
On October 8, it was adopted, and on November 13, 1991, the first law "On Citizenship of Ukraine" entered into force. This law ceased to be effective on March 1, 2001, when the current law of Ukraine on citizenship entered into force.
Content of the Law
According to the law, citizenship of Ukraine is a legal relationship between an individual and Ukraine, which finds expression in their mutual rights and obligations. It is based on the principle of uniform citizenship, that is, the possibility of the existence of citizenship of the administrative-territorial units of Ukraine is excluded. If a citizen of Ukraine acquired citizenship (citizenship) of another state or states, then in legal relations with Ukraine he is recognized only as a citizen of Ukraine. If a foreigner has acquired the citizenship of Ukraine, then in legal relations with Ukraine he is recognized only as a citizen of Ukraine.
Citizens of Ukraine are:
- all citizens of the former USSR who at the time of the declaration of independence of Ukraine permanently resided in Ukraine;
- persons, irrespective of race , color, political, religious and other beliefs, gender, ethnic and social origin, property status, place of residence, language or other characteristics who on November 13, 1991 lived in Ukraine and were not citizens of other states;
- persons who arrived in Ukraine for permanent residence after November 13, 1991 and who entered the inscription “citizen of Ukraine” in the passport of a citizen of the former USSR of the 1974 sample, and the children of such persons who arrived with their parents in Ukraine at the time of arrival they have not reached the age of majority in Ukraine if these persons have submitted applications for registration of citizenship of Ukraine;
- persons who have acquired citizenship of Ukraine in accordance with the laws of Ukraine and international treaties of Ukraine.
